2009 ford f-250 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The latest in heavy-duty pickups. introductionthe ford super duty line of heavy-duty pickup trucks received new styling inside and out along with a re-engineered suspension that delivers a smoother ride for 2008, so it's still a very new truck. In fact, it's the newest design among the heavy-duty pickups. Changes for 2009 are limited to trim and equipment. a cabela's special edition has joined the 2009 super duty fx4 line, a fun choice for hunters. Meanwhile, the harley-davidson edition has expanded to include the f-450 model, perfect for drivers who need to haul a big load of hogs. The f-450 is sort of a super super duty, a factory medium-duty big truck in pickup guise; ford continues to be the only high-volume manufacturer to offer this type of truck. ford's sync voice-activated hands-free communications and entertainment system is available on 2009 super duty models; sync uses usb ports and bluetooth wireless connectivity to link phones, media players, and other devices to the truck's system. Voice-activated navigation with sirius travel link and an eight-inch touch-screen is available, also. Even the base model now comes with air conditioning, securilock and trailer towing mirrors, while top-line trim comes with heated seats and a rearview camera. That camera is hugely helpful when backing the truck up to a trailer coupling; no more jumping out six times to get it lined up properly. this latest generation of ford super duty trucks is more refined than the pre-2008 models. It's also more environmentally friendly, a lexicon not normally applied to big trucks. With realistic expectations, any faults will seem minute when compared to the ability to plow a big parking lot, pull a small car, or tow a small house. need a truck to work? The super duty line can haul from one to three tons. It can tow from three tons to more than 12 tons. It can carry three to six real-world people with room to spare. Fx4 models can be ordered with outdoor outfitter cabela's package of two-tone paint scheme in five colors, cloth or leather upholstery, paldeo plood trim, all-weather floor mats, extra lockable interior storage spaces, custom mud flaps, and badges and logos. lariat 35,480) adds polished wheels, heated leather power front seats, dual-zone climate control, backup camera, sync, trip computer, redundant sound/climate controls on wheel, woodgrain trim, illuminated visor mirrors, privacy glass and a powered sliding rear window. The flame design is carried to the gauges and instrument panel while the seats, console and door panels are done in perforated black leather with blue leather underneath. Big chrome badges are plentiful inside and out. Its exterior dimensions can easily be given in yards rather than inches, and the sheer vastness of the sheetmetal can seem overwhelming when it's time to wash it. the color of the side vent gives away whether it is gasoline or diesel-powered. given its fender flares and dark snout, the fx4 is the most aggressive trim style, but no super duty will be mistaken for anything less than a full-size pickup even with nothing scalable within sight. the towing mirrors that are available include signal repeaters that won't distract the driver. These mirrors telescope and fold, either manually or powered, a great feature. This setup features a 16. 7 x 4. 5-inch step with a half-ton load rating that pops downward from the open tailgate; it comes with a grab handle rated at 300 pounds that flips up. The package also includes an assist so the very heavy tailgate feels less heavy. The handle makes bed access easier but may need to be lowered again to slide a load in; also, removing the tailgate, as needed for some trailers, may become a two-person chore. Still, it's an interesting feature and a lot of people have found they like it. a spray-in, military-grade bedliner is available as a factory option. interiorwith three-and-a-half feet of headroom and just shy of six feet of shoulder room, the ford super duty cab is massive. Materials are job appropriate: no carpet mats for commercial or trail duty. And everything appears well assembled. the king ranch version brings a little lincoln to a pickup while the base model could be cleaned out with a bucket of warm water. On upper-end models, the gear-cog-like chrome surrounds for vents and gauges can create some unwelcome reflections, and the number of textures and colors (we counted up to eight) may be too much for design minimalists. the interior was restyled for 2008. The dash is segmented in three smaller parts for a more manageable look. The center stack houses a pair of large vents, radio and navigation top center where easily viewed, climate control, and most switchgear. Side steps are available. seats are well-placed and offer a superb view out. The available captain's chairs offer plenty of support and adjustability, for 600 miles without stopping in the diesel's case. The tilt wheel, memory system and adjustable pedals allow great flexibility for his-and-hers seating positions, a nice feature.

With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the ford expedition can tow any of these. after redesigning the expedition for 2007 while also lowering the price, ford adds a new top end king ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. the expedition is meant for utility, not posing. It carries people, hauls gear, tows boats, and pulls campers. The second- and third-row seats fold flat to create a useful rear cargo area. Due to that size, however, the expedition is prone to lean in turns and is not easy to maneuver in close quarters. with its combination of utility, a smooth, stable ride and a pleasant interior, the 2008 ford expedition is a fine choice for families that tow boats and take driving vacations. lineupthe 2008 ford expedition comes in two lengths, the standard model with a 119-inch wheelbase, and the expedition el with its 131-inch wheelbase. Every expedition is powered by a single-overhead-cam 5. 4-liter v-8 that is rated at 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment. This is a good identity to have, because ford trucks continue to have an outstanding reputation for utility, reliability and durability. both the long and regular-length versions of the expedition use many of the components from the ford f-150 pickup. However, the expedition features independent rear suspension, chassis technology that improves driving precision, ride comfort, and rear-seat roominess. this third-generation expedition features a three-bar grille, large headlights, and a domed hood that combine to deliver a look that's both distinctive and respectable. There are several different wheel designs, including 20-inchers with a chrome finish. The expedition doesn't have the style of gm's sport-utilities, but at least it avoids the science-fiction look of the nissan armada. expedition el models stretch the wheelbase by a foot to 131 inches. Overall, the el measures 14. 8 inches longer than the standard expedition, and that adds 24 cubic feet of cargo volume, an increase from 108. 3 to 130. 8 cubic feet behind the front seats. both the standard expedition and the expedition el are big vehicles, measuring more than 17 feet from nose to tail. As a result, crowded parking lots can be challenging. The expedition has a turning circle of nearly 41 feet, while the el requires 44 feet. they're also heavy, as even the base 2wd expedition weighs 5578 pounds, while the base 2wd el tips the scales at 5825 pounds. The addition of 4wd adds another 235 pounds to the bottom line. the new king ranch model can be identified by its gold exterior accents and unique wheel design. the expedition comes with running boards as standard equipment. The expedition's second- and third-row bench-type seats fold flat into the cargo floor, affording a long cargo area that can be easily loaded. In this regard, the expedition is much better designed than gm's large suvs. The expedition is also available with an optional power-folding third-row seat and electronically powered liftgate to make it even easier to load cargo. However, the seat cushions of the second- and third-row seats are a little slim in order to allow the seats to fold properly. the expedition is about more than convenience. Major revisions make previous five hundred vastly superior. introductionford had little success with its large, front-drive family sedan called the ford five hundred since its introduction two years ago. So, for 2008, ford dumped the five hundred name and went back to the name of a clear market winner, renaming this car the 2008 ford taurus. likewise, the mercury montego has been renamed mercury sable, and the ford freestyle has been renamed taurus x, the x for crossover suv. along the way, ford has made some 500 changes to the new taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the five hundred. The general body shape of the new taurus is the same as that of the previous five hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better. this family of vehicles, loosely based on the same architecture as the volvo s80 luxury sedans with some detail changes to the suspension systems, also uses the same swedish haldex all-wheel-drive system as the volvo when it is ordered as an option. the weak 3. 0-liter v6 engine has been dropped in favor of a new 3. 5-liter, 24-valve v6 engine that makes a full 30 percent more power. It's the same engine that powers the larger and heavier ford edge and lincoln mkx crossovers and mkz luxury cars. Likewise, the cvt transmission has been replaced by a new 6f six-speed automatic. this new powertrain makes the taurus a whole lot more fun to drive than the ill-conceived five hundred was. Its 0-60 mph acceleration performance has been reduced by more than a second and a half, from 9. 2 seconds down to 7. 6 seconds, which is a huge chunk of performance. The new engine not only makes more power, it gets 10 percent better fuel economy, even after adjusting for the new, stricter testing procedures epa has mandated for 2008 models. On the open road, we found the taurus to be very quiet and smooth. taurus competes directly against other larger sedans on the market, chief among them the toyota avalon, the chevrolet impala, and the chrysler 300. The big kicker in all of this is that, with all the new styling, interior, engine, transmission and standard features upgrades, the price hovers only about $250 above comparably equipped versions of last year's bland, slow five hundred. lineupthe 2008 ford taurus features two models, sel 23,245) and limited 26,845). Each is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, called sel awd 25,095) and limited awd 28,695). Electronic stability control is an option. Decorative, nonfunctional gills have been added to the front fenders to add visual interest and take up some space on the huge fenders. likewise, the taillamps, rear quarter panels and decklid have been redone, and the rear bumper has been rejiggered to feature exposed dual exhaust tips. interiorwe found the 2008 taurus a very pleasant car to be in. Sync features include the ability to have text messages read aloud, voice recognition for control of both phone and music functions, and phonebook transfer. The system is upgradeable for future players and for additional functionality down the road. Sync will be offered on taurus and 11 other 2008 ford, lincoln, and mercury vehicles later this year. a taurus limited awd we drove was loaded with options, including advancetrac electronic stability control, a roof-mounted rear-seat dvd entertainment system, heated front seats, convenience package, wood package, power adjustable pedals, a moonroof, voice-activated touch-screen navigation, sirius satellite radio, and reverse sensing system, bringing the bottom line to $33,600, and making it the best-equipped taurus possible, short of the 18-inch chromed aluminum wheel option. driving impressionthe new engine and transmission in the 2008 ford taurus are a wonderful team. The engine is extremely quiet and smooth at idle, and uses a pendulum mounting system that effectively separates its motions and vibrations from the rest of the car. It sounds healthy, powerful and smooth at full throttle, makes the car plenty quick in acceleration and passing situations, and settles down to a nice background hum in sixth gear, as it should. At freeway speeds, the taurus is very, very quiet inside. we spent in inordinate amount of time at full-throttle with the new taurus because it's so much fun to wind up in the lower gears; the old five hundred was just slow. The steering is accurate, with good feedback, and not overly assisted in normal and highway driving. It just happens to look and behave like a family sedan. It won't outrun a chrysler 300 hemi, but it's quicker than almost everything else in the class, and at these prices, we think it's a real bargain. newcartestdrive. So the 2011 mustang represents a significant improvement over the superb 2010 edition of america's pony car, which was a large improvement over the 2004-2009 models, which was a major improvement over what came before that. the mustang has been in continuous production for 46 straight years, and more than 9 million mustangs have been built and sold to date. That gives the mustang the longest production run of any single model in ford history. the 2011 ford mustang comes in three body styles: coupe, convertible, and a glass-roof coupe. Each is available in both the traditional v6 model and the v8-powered mustang gt. Both engines are much more powerful this year. the 3. 7-liter v6 replaces the old 4. 0-liter v6, the new one producing 305 horsepower versus just 210 horses from the older, bigger engine. The new v8 marks the return of the 5. 0. An new all-aluminum engine, the 5. 0-liter v8 in the mustang gt produces 412 horsepower, which is far more than the 315 horsepower of the outgoing 4. 6-liter v8. Both new engines for 2011 get new six-speed manual and automatic transmissions versus the five-speeds of 2010. the ford shelby gt500 gains power for 2011, with a new aluminum version of the 5. 4-liter v8 producing 550 horsepower instead of the 500 ponies from the 2010 iron-block engine. We have not driven the new shelby gt500. Yet. the 2011 engines transform the mustang, providing the type of willing power pony car fans will love while improving fuel economy at the same time. The engines are lighter and the car has more rigidity, so the already impressive handling is that much better. the 2011 mustang is also quieter and more refined than ever, and, more importantly, it's an absolute blast to drive. It is quick off the mark with a brawny sound, crisp handling, a tight suspension, and much improved brakes. Put simply, this is the best mustang ever, and it is the model that other pony car makers should follow. in addition to the new engines and transmissions, the 2011 mustang gets an additional front z brace and a revised suspension to improve ride quality while also improving handling; new safety features including ford's mykey system, power side mirrors with integral blind spot mirrors, and fold-down rear headrests; electric power steering meant to improve fuel economy while also aiding steering feel; and new features, such as a performance package for v6 models and available brembo brakes for the gt. lineupthe 2011 mustang is offered in v6 base and premium models, v8-powered gt base and premium models, and the supercharged v8-powered gt500, each in coupe and convertible body styles. An svt performance package 3,495) for the shelby includes a 3. 73 rear axle ratio, unique shift knob, special exterior stripes, rear spoiler with gurney flap, performance suspension with unique springs and rear shocks, p265/40zr19 front and p285/35zr20 rear tires on painted forged aluminum wheels. the v6 performance package adds a 3. 31 rear axle ratio; the front and rear stabilizer bars, front struts, and rear shocks and springs from the gt coupe; the rear lower control arm from the shelby gt500; 19-inch wheels with pirelli performance tires; the brake calipers from the mustang gt with performance friction pads; a strut tower brace; and electronic stability control calibration with a sport mode for performance driving. There's a sport appearance package 295) that just has the rear spoiler and body stripes. the mustang club of america special edition 995) for the v6 premium adds p235/50zr18 tires on sterling gray metallic-painted alloy wheels, dark stainless painted billet grille with tri-bar pony badge, side tape stripes, decklid tape, rear spoiler, carpeted floormats with pony logo, and automatic headlights. the california special 1,995) edition for the gt premium adds 19-inch painted alloy wheels, a chrome billet grille with tri-bar pony badge, unique lower front fascia with foglamps, pedestal spoiler, decklid badge with faux gas cap, instrument panel applique, carbon door panel inserts, carbon inserts for leather seating surfaces, carpeted floormats with logo, rear diffuser-style fascia, decklid tape and side scoops. a navigation system with voice recognition and real-time traffic information, and dual-zone automatic climate control come with the electronics group 2,340). The comfort group 595) adds heated front seats and a six-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. With its 2010 redesign, ford gave a nod to the 1969-70 mustang with a new face that features a wider grille opening. other elements of the redesign could be seen as tributes to the past. The coupe's fastback roofline, unchanged from the last generation, recalls the original 1964. 5 mustang. The chamfered three-element taillamps, which house sequential turn signals that blink from the inside lamp to the outside lamp, were first found on the 1964 thunderbird, then the 1967-68 shelby mustangs and late '60s mercury cougars. And the hockey stick lower character line could be viewed as an homage to the lower portion of the side coves found on mustangs from 1964 to '68. compared to the last generation body style, ford said the 2010 mustang had 23 percent less aerodynamic lift at the front with a new slotted panel installed under the radiator to direct air, 50 percent better in front/rear lift balance, and seven percent less aerodynamic drag. For 2011, the company has lowered the front air dam and added a front splitter and an underbody aero shield to improve aerodynamics by another 4 percent. ford took several steps to improve noise, vibration and harshness for the 2010 model year, and the company has done even more for 2011. Additional sound-deadening material on the instrument panel and a rear wheel arch liner help drivers hear the sounds they want (namely the engine) and avoid the sounds that can be a distraction (such as dash creaks and tire noise). the 3453-pound mustang (3605 pounds for the gt) uses welded steel unibody construction with front and rear subframes to mount the steering and suspension systems, with almost half the body weight in high-strength low-alloy steel. It is by far the lightest of the new breed of pony cars, beating the camaro by 300 pounds and the dodge challenger by as much as 500 pounds. The weight savings are a definite advantage. the convertible comes standard with a power top with a glass rear window. The top uses two latches that the driver must operate, but they're within arm's reach and they latch and unlatch easily. interioranyone who hasn't been in a mustang for a couple of years will want to take a look at the 2011 model. The interior was much improved for 2010 and there are even more improvements for 2011. The front bucket seats are significantly more comfortable and better looking than the slabs used in the 2009 models, though they could still use more lateral support. The aforementioned noise.
