2004 honda accord review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It's certainly one of the best-selling cars and has been for the past decade. Honda redesigned and re-engineered the accord last year, and the results are dazzling.  the accord sedans combine high technology and high quality with everyday economy of operation and keen attention to detail. The popular lx and ex models are terrific cars with comfort and convenience features that make for great daily drivers. Order the leather interior, and the ex becomes an affordable luxury sedan. The accord is also available with a powerful v6 engine, which adds another level of sports appeal.  a gorgeous coupe is available, featuring sporty styling that's unique from the sedan. The lx coupe starts below $20,000 and makes for a quick, no-hassle, high-quality, sporty, two-door coupe that's great for commuting. Add the v6 and leather and it's an executive expressmobile for fast trackers, an affordable alternative to a bmw 330i. If that isn't enough, a new factory performance package has been developed for the v6 coupe.  model year 2004 brings a few new features to the line. Xm satellite radio comes standard on ex-l and ex v-6 models. Side curtain airbags are available on ex models for improved head protection. A new intelligent climate-control system is available. Honda sold more than 414,000 accords in 2002 and sales in 2003 were up as of the third quarter. lineupthe 2004 honda accord comes in nearly two dozen different combinations when all the engines, body styles, transmissions and trim levels are taken into account. Choosing one is easier than that makes it sound, however. The lx 19,300) and ex 21,700) sedans add a higher level of standard equipment. The lx v-6 23,300) and ex v-6 26,400) sedans come standard with the v6, automatic and more luxury equipment. The automatic transmission 800) is optional. The lx v6 coupe 23,400) comes with the v6 and automatic. The ex v6 coupe 26,500) is a performance-oriented model, and comes with either the five-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission as a no-cost option. Six-speed coupes also come with a cross-brace between the front shock towers. The new factory performance package for the ex coupe v6 combines a lowered suspension with an aero body kit and a chrome exhaust extension, all dealer-installed. For automatic models, the package includes the same 17-inch wheels and tires that are standard with the six-speed manual.  safety: anti-lock brakes are standard on all accord models. Ex v6 models come with traction control. Dealers can add an mp3/windows media player, a dvd rear-seat entertainment system, and a hands-free cell phone. walkaroundthe accord sedan and coupe share no sheet metal whatsoever, although their faces do look alike (partly because the one exterior feature they do share is their angular headlamps). Completely redesigned for 2003, the sharpened noses of the accord sedan and coupe are reminiscent of an acura rsx. The corners and sides of both bodies are carefully sculpted with a combination of concave and convex surfaces, in an attempt to achieve a muscular and agile look, with subtle and unique three-dimensional window glass, also intended to reduce wind noise. The aerodynamically efficient side-view mirrors are one of the results of wind tunnel testing.  the sedan's drag coefficient (a measure of how easily it moves through the air) is 0. 30, significantly better than the previous model's 0. 33. This latest accord is also longer in wheelbase, and wider and taller overall than its predecessor, for more interior room. Yet it looks lower, thanks in part to its sleeker, raked-back windshield.  the coupe is a completely different beast. Its flanks and rear deck are even more shapely, flowing naturally and gracefully from the roofline. It yields a very aerodynamic 0. 29 drag coefficient (compared to 0. 32 for the pre-2003 coupe).  the accord's doors are built using a new and unique method that makes them very light and strong. Additionally, the coupe earned a five-star rating for front and rear-seat passengers in the side-impact test, even without the optional side-impact airbags.  all accord coupes and the majority of sedans are assembled in honda's marysville, ohio, plant, though some of the sedans come from japan and mexico. interiorthe honda accord's interior is smooth, firm, and quiet. For starters, it comes with great seats.  the seats in the sedan are generously wide and tall, with springs and urethane padding designed to reduce vibration. The driver's seat provides a one-with-the-car feel with good side support. It features a manual height adjustment or power adjustments on premium models. Front legroom is generous, also. A tilt-and-telescope steering wheel is standard even on the base dx.  the seats in the coupe seem a bit different and feel even better than those in the sedan. The side bolsters are more aggressive providing a more secure fit at the torso. The cloth looked classier in black. The light-colored cloth looked like it would show dirt over time. The leather is nicer than the cloth.  the sedan's bench seat is roomy and comfortable, especially for two people with the center armrest flipped out. The accord's trunk measures 14 cubic feet, compared with the camry's nearly 17 cubic feet and the altima's 15. 6. The coupe's trunk is slightly smaller, holding less than 13 cubic feet.  the excellent, clear analog instrumentation comprises large faces and led illumination, another feature previously found only in higher-priced cars. A big speedometer in the center dominates the instrument panel. Automatic dual-zone climate control is avaiable on ex models. The switchgear, primarily three big dials located in the center of the dash, is simple, if not particularly attractive. Honda's interior fit and finish is good. The available bird's-eye wood grain plastic trim looked interesting, the faux carbon fiber trim looked nice, and the brushed aluminum trim wasn't bad either.  interior space is used efficiently, with the audio, climate and optional navigation system controls integrated into a single unit. Up to eight cupholders are provided; a couple of them are big enough to hold a liter-sized water bottle yet feature spring-loaded prongs that can grip a paper coffee cup. But here's the real-world test: we took the v6 coupe six-speed on a flat-out blast through the malibu hills, engine revving to redline, windows wide open, cd celebrating bob marley, and even with all that ex. 2012 honda accord review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The benchmark for midsize sedans. introductionthe honda accord is difficult to beat in terms of overall performance, efficiency and refinement. Honda accord and toyota camry have long been the benchmarks for midsize sedans because both do everything well. It comes with a sporty suspension package and low-profile tires on 18-inch wheels, and goes head to head with the nissan altima coupe.  with effectively five trim levels, the accord can fit a wide range of budgets. There's a no-frills sedan with plastic wheel covers, essential features and a solid stereo; and high-trim models with sumptuous leather, mega-watt sound systems, active noise cancellation and navigation. All variants deliver high engineering standards, excellent finish, good build quality and all the important safety equipment.  the 2012 accord carries over largely unchanged; a usb port comes standard on all 2012 accord models. The accord benefitted from a facelift for 2011, and some new features and efficiencies brought improved fuel mileage ratings. The accord sedan and coupe were last redesigned for 2008, when they grew in exterior dimensions and offered improved occupant safety.  some of the accord's competitors have been redesigned more recently. Others can be more fun to drive. Yet there may be none that match accord's overall combination of polish, refinement, efficiency and choice. For that reason, the honda accord remains a benchmark among mainstream, midsize automobiles. lineupthe 2012 honda accord line-up includes sedans and coupes, with three engine choices, 5- and 6-speed manual transmissions, and a 5-speed automatic. Rather than offering traditional options or option packages, honda tends to mark upgrades in equipment with a different model designation. It comes with cloth upholstery; air conditioning; power mirrors, windows and door locks; a tilt-telescoping steering column; folding rear seats; and a 160-watt sound system with single cd, an auxiliary jack and, new for 2012, a usb port. The standard wheels are 16-inch steel with plastic covers, but the tailpipe sports a chrome finisher. The 5-speed manual transmission is standard, and the 5-speed automatic 800) is available. It also adds a 6cd changer, 17-inch alloy wheels, power moonroof, heated mirrors and premium interior accents. The automatic is available.  accord ex v6 sedan 27,280) features a 271-hp, 3. 5-liter v6 with 5-speed automatic; fog lights come standard.  accord ex-l 27,555) and accord ex-l v6 sedan 29,630) add leather on the seats and steering wheel, while the ex-l v6 also has two-position memory for the driver's seat. The ex-l models also come with 270-watt audio, xm satellite radio, bluetooth connectivity, heated front seats, compass and exterior temperature indicator, automatic on/off headlights and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Accord coupe ex-l v6 with navi 31,930) adds navigation and rearview camera.  safety features on all accords include six airbags, with two-stage front airbags, front passenger side-impact airbags and head-protection curtains for all outboard seats. Other standard safety features include active front head restraints, electronic stability control, antilock brakes with electronic brake distribution and brake assist, and a tire pressure monitor. The optional navigation system includes a rearview camera, which can help the driver spot children and other hazards behind the car when backing up. walkaroundall honda accord models got a mild styling makeover for 2011, and there are no significant changes for 2012. Known in the car business as a mid-cycle facelift, the 2011 changes are about as extensive as any car gets between complete redesigns. They re-emphasize the accord's conservative, upscale appearance.  the current-generation accord sedan was introduced as a 2008 model, and it's larger than any before it. Although it competes in the mid-size market segment, the sedan is classified a large car by the federal government, based on interior volume. The coupe looks lighter, more lithe.  the 2011 styling updates for the sedan and coupe won't be obvious from across a parking lot, but they're noticeable in details at closer range. The sedan's front bumper and grille, wedged between angular, jewel-like light clusters were re-shaped. The effect is a slightly more pronounced snout than before. In back, the lip of the trunk lid and the taillights have been tweaked for a crisper, even more substantial look.  in general, the accords maintain their contemporary yet notably conservative design, highlighted by a strong character line that slopes down and forward like that of the acura tl, though the hondas are much less angular than the acuras. All accord variants maintain the honda hallmarks of narrow windshield pillars and a low cowl that promote good forward visibility. The swept-back headlight housings minimize protruding corners and ease maneuverability, though it takes some familiarity before the driver is certain exactly where the corners of the car are. Many of the accord's design elements are a product of auto/pedestrian collision standards. Stepping up to the accord se model adds leather upholstery and heated seats, but the basics like seat design and driver ergonomics are shared by all models.  the leather is high quality and perfectly tailored, and the driver's seat in most models has multiple power adjustments. There's good support for the long haul, but the seats are easy to slide in and out of during around-town errands. Ex-l v6 models add a two-position memory for the driver's seat. The shifter is right at hand, and the proper handbrake has short travel. The sunroof button, reading lights and a drop-down glasses holder are located in a mini-console above the rearview mirror.  there's a clear view of what's all around outside the accord, and of the proven, extra-crisp dial-and-needle gauges inside. Accords equipped with the navigation system now come with a back-up camera, and it's valuable. 2010 honda accord review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Solid mid-size sedans and coupes. introductionthe honda accord comes in sedan and coupe versions. Either way, the accord is big on efficiency, be it getting the most power and range from a gallon of gas with the least emissions, making the largest interior available given the exterior space it takes up, or providing the smoothest, quietest ride possible with the lightest weight. The two model years since have brought little change.  for 2010, all accord models with leather interiors come with a bluetooth hands-free phone link. The lx sedan 21,055) comes standard with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power mirrors and door locks, power windows, variable intermittent wipers, tilt-and-telescoping steering column and illuminated wheel-mounted controls, folding rear seats, and an mp3/wma/auxiliary-input 160-watt sound system. Wheels are 16-inch steel with p215/60hr16 tires. The lx-p sedan 22,055) is an lx with a premium package that adds alloy wheels, a power driver's seat, illuminated power window switches and express up/down for the front passenger’s window, security system, and a chrome tailpipe. They also come with five-speed manual or automatic transmission 800). All three add an in-dash cd changer, an information screen controlled by a selector knob, and 17-inch alloy wheels with p225/50 all-season tires; while the two ex models also benefit from a power moonroof, heated mirrors, and premium interior accents. To this the ex coupe adds a 270-watt stereo, and the ex sedan adds driver power lumbar adjustment and new-for-2010 rear-seat ventilation ducts,  the ex sedan is also available with a 271 horsepower 3. 5-liter v6 and five-speed automatic 26,805). It comes with most of the same amenities as the ex-l v6 sedan, and adds 18-inch alloy wheels with 235/45vr18 tires and a rear decklid spoiler.  an optional navigation system features voice-activation and steering wheel controls. Accords with this package are priced as separate models of the ex-l sedan 28,030), ex-l coupe 28,080), ex-l v6 sedan 31,105), and ex-l v6 coupe 31,305).  safety equipment is standard, with six airbags, including two-stage front airbags, dual-chamber front side airbags, side curtain airbags; active front head restraints, electronic stability control, antilock brakes with electronic brake distribution and brake assist, and tire pressure monitors. walkaroundthe honda accord features contemporary yet conservative design highlighted by a strong character line that slopes down and forward like that of the acura tl. Last redesigned for 2008, the current accord features narrow windshield pillars and a low cowl for good forward visibility, honda hallmarks. Many modern design elements are the result of auto/pedestrian collision standards. The wiper arm mounts are designed to break away when hit, for example.  forward lights are aptly described as hawk-like and look fiercer on coupes because they use projector headlamps as opposed to the conventional reflector design on the sedans; v6 models include fog lamps. At the rear the lamp elements appear cut off at the style line rather than extending up to the top trunk seam. This contributes a sense of heaviness and more closely mirrors the rounded rear end styling of the acura rl rather than the taut crispness of the tl.  the current accord sedan is larger than any before, and although it competes in the mid-size market segment it is by epa interpretation a large car. It is about five inches longer than primary competitor camry, and more than three inches longer that the nissan altima and maxima.  the coupe, on the other hand, won't be confused with a large car. Virtually every exterior dimension save width is 2-4 inches smaller than that of the sedan. The coupe is sleeker yet still fits the accord mold. Stepping up to an accord ex-l with leather adds features, but the basics like seat design and driver ergonomics are shared by all models.  the tilt-and-telescoping steering column provides a good range of adjustment to complement the adjustable driver’s seat, so all the masses can find a good driving position. There's a clear view of what’s all around outside, and of the instrument panel with its proven dial-and-needle gauges. The information display or navigation screen is inset under a shade at the same height as the gauges, so glare is controlled, and the screen can be viewed with polarized glasses.  accord ex-l models come with leather on the seats, steering wheel, manual shifter and door panels. The ex-l leather appears of high quality and assembly as does the rest of the car. The width of the accord translates directly into a wide cabin, especially in front. The center armrest was designed to be big enough for two adults to share without awkward glances.  rear-seat passengers will have few complaints as few do in large cars. Seat cushions and backrest carry right out to the door without wheelwell intrusion, offer space for a six-footer to sit comfortably behind another one, and easy entry and egress. The center seat is better padded than many, and as such it loses a bit of headroom to the outer seats. There are no rear reading lamps.  three interior colors are offered on the sedans, black, gray, and ivory, while the coupe goes black or ivory only. Honda's graphics for the variable intermittent wipers are among the simplest: rather than bars, lines or dots of differing size, the accord uses one raindrop for long interval and three raindrops for more frequent wiping. The shifter is right at hand, and the proper handbrake has short travel.  controls for sound, climate, and navigation are central below the navigation screen and vents. One row of switches controls audio input (am, xm, cd, etc.) and another row has six audio presets. 2005 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Big satisfaction in a small package. introductionefficient, practical, affordable, polished and pleasant to drive, if not downright fun, with a reputation for reliability: these are the honda civic's hallmarks, and nothing about the 2005 model suggests anything has changed.  measured by the hardware, little has changed on the civic for 2005. There are a couple of new paint colors and a special edition package at the high end of the line-up. On the other hand, price increases are so modest that they haven't kept pace with inflation, and the civic had significant changes inside and out for 2004.  few carmakers offer the range or diversity honda builds into the civic line. There are sedans, coupes and a hatchback, with an emphasis on either features and convenience, performance or fuel efficiency and low cost of operation. All are notable for their excellent fuel economy, free-revving engines and solid handling, including the electrically assisted hybrid. Up-level civics come with powerful vtec engines that deliver brisk acceleration. All provide superb comfort for front-seat passengers.  three specialized civics are designed specifically to minimize environmental impact and deliver better fuel economy than all but a few cars currently available. The most extreme is the hybrid sedan, which gets up to 51 mpg with help from an electric motor that never needs to be plugged in. Owning and driving a civic hybrid is just like life with a regular civic, almost. The civic hx coupe gets 44 mpg on regular unleaded. There's also a civic gx sedan that burns natural gas; honda claims it has the cleanest internal combustion engine in the world.  subtle styling changes were made for 2004 when bumpers, hoods, headlights and grilles on the coupe and sedan were redesigned to emphasize a baby-brother resemblance to the slick, smooth honda accord. The sporty si hatchback was trimmed with new head- and tail lamps. The sedans and coupes offer several engines choices and trim levels. All come standard with a five-speed manual transmission. Honda's package-pricing policy means extra equipment is geared to the trim level, with few individual options. A new special edition trim package is offered for 2005. Prices have increased a modest $150 from 2004 for all models except the si, which rises $220.  the dx sedan 13,160) and dx coupe 13,810) are the least expensive civics. The dx sedan has wind-up windows and manual locks, and it lacks such features as air conditioning and seat-height adjustment. An optional vp or value package 400) adds air conditioning, a cd player and a center console. The vp is included in the price of the standard dx coupe.  in other civic trim levels, the coupes are less expensive. The lx sedan 15,510) and lx coupe 15,310) get the 115-hp engine with more standard equipment, including air conditioning, 15-inch (rather than 14-inch) steel wheels, anti-roll bars front and rear, power-windows, a height-adjustable driver's seat, remote keyless entry and a cd player.  the civic ex sedan 17,410) and coupe 17,010) get more power from a more sophisticated 127-horsepower vtec (for variable valve timing) version of the 1. 7-liter engine. Ex also adds 15-inch aluminum wheels, body-colored power mirrors, upgraded audio with six speakers and a tilt-and-slide glass sunroof. The se is actually an option package 450) on the ex. It includes an in-dash 6-disc cd changer with an auxiliary jack for ipod-style mp3 players and satellite radio receivers. The se also adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear-deck spoiler, unique alloy wheels and special badges.  the civic si 19,220) is only available as a hatchback and the hatchback is only available as the si. The si comes with a high-output 2. 0-liter vtec engine delivering 160 horsepower, sport tires and suspension and ex-grade features. It's not offered with an automatic.  three specialty civics put a particular premium on fuel efficiency. The hx 13,860) comes with dx-style amenities and a lean-burn engine that combines up to 44 mpg highway with an impressive 117 horsepower. The hybrid is equipped comparably to the ex sedan, with a five-speed manual transmission or optional cvt. The hybrid system provides up to 93 horsepower and 116 lb-ft of torque with the electric motor 'assist.' fuel economy is improved up to 30 percent compared to other civic sedans, while meeting the epa's partial zero emissions standard.  finally, the civic gx sedan 20,190) comes with 100-hp, natural gas-powered engine that requires a special fueling station for home use. The gx may have the cleanest internal combustion engine in the world, as honda claims, but it's also the most expensive and one of the least powerful civics. For 2005, the gx gets the same styling changes introduced on other civic sedans in 2004.  safety equipment includes two-stage front airbags, child seat anchors for the back seat and an emergency release lever inside the trunk, all standard. Side-impact air bags come standard on the hybrid and are optional on all models 250) and we strongly recommend getting them. Anti-lock brakes (abs) are standard on the ex, si, and hybrid, and optional on gx. We wish abs was available on all models. The civic scores well in the national highway traffic safety administration's crash. walkaroundhonda's reputation for space-efficient design holds in the civic. This small car packs its motor into a condensed engine bay, leaving more space for passengers, especially in front, without increasing exterior dimensions. We like the civic's expansive glass, compared to some small cars. We're not crazy about the lever-type door handles, though, the grab-through style is easier to use.  now familiar, the civic's basic wedge profile rises from front to rear, with a low, abbreviated prow and high, curt tail. The hood sits amazingly low. Civic's flanks are interrupted only by a single crease that dashes from the front wheel opening to the taillight; there are no body-side moldings. Windshield pillars arch into the rolled roof to meet narrow c-pillars. Bold tail lamps dominate the blunt rear panel. Overall, both the sedan and the coupe remain conservative in appearance, but contemporary in design.  for 2005, the new special edition features a prominent rear-deck spoiler, unique alloy wheels and badges that quickly distinguish it from other civics. These features follow more significant styling changes introduced last year, when most models where fitted with redesigned bumpers, grilles, hoods and lights at both ends. The changes are subtle, but suggest the total re-style given big brother accord in 2003. The family resemblance is obvious.  the same shared blood is even more obvious between the civic sedan and coupe, yet the two cars are clearly different. While they share the same wheel base and inner structure, most of their exterior panels are not interchangeable. The coupe features a more aggressive windshield rake, intended to create a sportier look, and its tail lamps light up in a signature pattern. Its huge, flat windshield is steeply raked, and its nose slopes radically downward, generating excellent aerodynamics and allowing great visibility outward. The si is slab-sided, without any sculpture in the sheet metal, though in 2004 better proportioned 16-inch wheels gave the car more character by better filling the wheel wells. Some think the si is ugly; others love it and are quick to defend it. interiorgood seats, well-designed controls and excellent outward visibility make the honda civic an easy car to operate. The windows are expansive for a car this size and the hood is low, so the passenger compartment feels airy and open. Sight lines are excellent for driving and parking. From the front seat all civics are comfortable cars; from the back seat, they are less so.  front-seat accommodations in the civic are superb for a car in this class. The sedan's seats provide excellent support, thanks to a rigid structure with fairly aggressive side bolsters. High bottom cushions make entry and exit easy, though a lack of height adjustment in the base dx limits tailoring for driver size or taste. The civic coupe's front seatbacks stretch broad and deep, with headrests that are open at the center like a doughnut. The si hatchback's front seats are best of all, offering comfort for longer trips and more aggressive bolstering for hard driving.  seat fabrics have been upgraded in recent years, and the look and feel of materials are generally very good. The civic hybrid's interior is most posh of all, with automatic climate control and a two-tone finish lacking in the high-trim ex sedan. 2006 honda accord review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New look, more power. introductionthe 2006 honda accord may be the best of the midsize sedans. The accord simply does everything well. And the coupe packs the accord's attributes into a sporty two-door.  for 2006, the accord gets a freshened look inside and out. Accord v6 models get new 17-inch tires and re-tuned suspensions for 2006. And all '06 accords benefit from enhanced sound insulation.  the accord hybrid, launched as a 2005 model, achieves excellent fuel economy, generates very little emissions (it's at-pzev certified), and delivers more horsepower than the gasoline-only model. The popular lx and ex sedans are terrific cars with comfort and convenience features that make them great daily drivers. Order the leather interior, and the ex becomes an affordable luxury sedan. The v6 adds another level of sporting appeal.  the accord coupe is a quick, no-hassle, high-quality, sporty two-door that's great for commuting. Add the v6 and leather and it's an executive expressmobile.  for these reasons and others, the honda accord continues to be one of the best-selling cars in the u. S. lineupthe honda accord comes in nearly three dozen combinations when all the engines, body styles, transmissions and trim levels are all tallied up. But choosing one is easier than it may sound. It's better equipped, and comes standard with air conditioning, cruise control, daytime running lamps, power locks and keyless entry. The ex is available with leather upholstery, a dvd navigation system, and xm satellite radio.  lx v-6 23,950) and ex v-6 26,850) add not only a 3. 0-liter v6 and automatic transmission, but 17-inch wheels and tires and more luxury equipment as well, including a power glass sunroof and heated side mirrors. All v6 models now come with vehicle stability assist (vsa) and brake assist. Leather is standard on the ex v6. A six-speed manual transmission is now available in ex v6 sedans as well as coupes.  accord hybrid 30,140), combines a v6 gasoline engine and an electric motor to provide significantly more power: 253 horsepower vs. 244 for the gasoline-only v6. It also gets substantially better fuel economy: 30/37 miles per gallon city/highway vs. 21/30 for the standard v6. An automatic transmission is available. The lx v-6 coupe 23,900) comes with the v6 and automatic. The ex v-6 coupe 26,950) is a performance-oriented model, and comes with either the five-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission as a no-cost option; it also has leather seating surfaces.  safety is enhanced on all accords by side-impact and curtain airbags, in addition to the required dual front airbags. Anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd) come standard. All v6 models come with vehicle stability assist (vsa) and brake assist. Ex v6 models are also equipped with traction control. walkaroundboth the honda accord sedan and coupe have been face-lifted for 2006, with a new grille and front bumper, and a new rear bumper, deck lid, and tail lights. Wheels and exhaust finishers have also been restyled.  the sharpened noses of the 2006 accord sedan and coupe are reminiscent of an acura rsx. The sedan's drag coefficient, or cd (a measure of how easily it moves through the air), is 0. 30, which is quite slippery. Its flanks and rear deck are more shapely, flowing naturally and gracefully from the roofline. It yields an aerodynamic cd of 0. 29, which is quite slippery.  the accord's doors are built using a unique method that makes them light and strong. Additionally, the coupe earned a five-star rating for front- and rear-seat passengers in the side-impact test.  all accord coupes and most of the sedans are assembled in marysville, ohio. Some sedans are assembled in japan and mexico. interiornew interior styling freshens the cabin of the 2006 honda accord. A new instrument panel, a new steering wheel, new fabrics for the seats, new satin chrome accents around the vents highlight the changes for 2006.  the seats are great, generously wide and tall in the sedan, with springs and urethane padding designed to reduce vibration. The driver's seat provides a one-with-the-car feel thanks to good side support. It features a manual height adjustment (power on premium models) that jacks up plenty high for even the shortest drivers, and yet drops low enough to provide good headroom for taller folks. Front legroom is generous. A tilt-and-telescope steering wheel is standard.  the seats in the coupe seem a bit different and feel even better than those in the sedan. The side bolsters are more aggressive, providing a more secure fit at the torso. The leather is nicer than the cloth.  the sedan's rear bench seat is roomy and comfortable, especially for two people with the center armrest flipped out. Rear-seat legroom is slightly better than in the nissan altima, but the toyota camry provides an inch more.  the accord's trunk is smaller than that of other mid-size sedans, but the flat trunk floor makes loading easy. The accord's trunk measures 14 cubic feet (11. 2 for the hybrid version because of its extra computer and battery pack), compared with the 2006 camry's nearly 17 cubic feet and the 2006 altima's 15. 6. The accord coupe's trunk is slightly smaller than the sedan's, holding less than 13 cubic feet.  the instrumentation is excellent, comprising large, clear analog faces with led illumination, the latter a feature associated with higher-priced luxury cars. A big speedometer in the center dominates the instrument panel. The switchgear, primarily three big dials located in the center of the dash, is simple, if not particularly attractive. Automatic dual-zone climate control is available on ex models.  interior space is used efficiently, with the audio, climate and optional navigation system controls integrated into a single unit. This frees up space for exceptional cabin storage, including a good-sized glovebox, a big center console, a bin under the audio system that will hold 12 cds, and door pockets deep and wide enough for a purse.  honda's interior fit and finish is good. Attention to detail is seen everywhere: coinholders, cellphone cord hooks, grab handles over every door, console lights, power outlets, sunglasses holders, adjustable armrests, convenient and versatile access to the trunk from the rear seat. Up to eight cupholders are provided; a couple of them are big enough to hold a liter-sized water bottle yet feature spring-loaded prongs that can grip a paper coffee cup. But here's the real-world test: we took the v-6 coupe six-speed on a flat-out blast through the malibu hills, engine revving to redline, windows wide open, cd celebrating bob marley, and even with all that exterior noise, max volume on the sound system wasn'. 2003 honda accord review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, the seventh generation of this best-seller is dazzling. introductionwe recently attended the introduction of the 2003 accord in hollywood, test driving all the models over the great roads of the malibu hills. We have seen the future, and it is impressive. But with the new accord, the champ has not only remade itself, it has re-invented a new self, without un-inventing the old self. The lx v6 comes with its own automatic. The ex coupe v6, a full-tilt sports sedan, comes with the automatic or a new six-speed manual transmission.  anti-lock brakes are standard on all models. Upscale options, depending on the model, may include leather power seats, a moonroof, alloy wheels, steering-wheel audio controls, side airbags, side curtain airbags, and a new voice-activated dvd navigation system programmed with some eight million destinations. This isn't easy to repeat without raised eyebrows; however its truth may be mostly a measure of what it means to be a mid-size sedan nowadays. The sedan and coupe share no sheetmetal whatsoever, although their faces do look alike. They feature a sharpened nose and angular headlamps, reminiscent of an acura rsx. The corners and sides of both bodies are carefully sculpted with a combination of concave and convex angles, in this attempt to achieve a muscular and agile look, with subtle and unique three-dimensional window glass, also intended to reduce wind noise.  there's been a vast and impressive amount of attention to detail in this redesign, with more new parts than in any of the previous five redesigns. For example, the aerodynamically efficient sideview mirrors are one of the results of the wind tunnel testing.  the drag coefficient is 0. 30, a big jump compared to 0. 33 in 2002. The length of 189. 5 inches is only 0. 1 inch longer than the '02 accord, but the wheelbase has been increased by one inch and width by 1. 2 inches. The bottom of the rear bumper has been lowered by one inch, and the sculpted wheelwells have a smaller gap around the tires. The roof has been raised by 0. 4 inch, but the car looks lower, thanks in part to a sleeker a pillar. The new roof allows more headroom: 0. 4 inch more in the front, 0. 8 inch in the rear.  cheetahs aside, the coupe is a completely different beast. Its flanks and rear deck are much more shapely, flowing naturally and gracefully from the roofline. Its dimensions are virtually identical to the '02 coupe, but the high beltline, sweeping door lines, sleek roofline and smooth rear fenders give it striking good looks, especially in red. It yields a very aerodynamic 0. 29 drag coefficient (0. 32 last year) and makes even the upscale acura cl look dated (a problem to be solved by a new cl, in the works).  under the skin, the new unibody is 27 percent stiffer in torsional rigidity, which honda boasts makes it stiffer than the bmw 3 series, audi a4 and a6, and even the mercedes s-class. The doors are built using a new and unique method, invented for the accord that makes them lighter and much stronger than before. And feel it in the extremely light touch to open the trunk.  a new front subframe, with hydroformed elements (a state-of-the-art method to create complex shapes from high-strength steel), is designed to reduce noise and vibration from the engine and front suspension. It's also designed to slide back a few inches under the passenger compartment in a head-on crash, which better dissipates forces.  there's also a sophisticated new engine mounting system, designed not only reduce vibration and tighten handling, but to complement the subframe's crash behavior. Honda engineers are particularly proud of the fact that the 2003 accord with side airbags is expected to achieve the industry's five-star crash rating in front, rear and side collisions, along with only the more expensive volvo s60 and lexus is300.  . interiorthe mission was an interior designer's dream. The sedan and coupe seats are different, with the coupe's bolstering providing a more secure fit at the torso, and a lower seating position. The cushion, springs and new urethane padding are all intended to reduce vibration. The vertical travel in the manual lx seat, with lever operation, has been increased by 1. 5 inches, a nice touch for women. The steering wheel has been angled more toward the driver and raised almost an inch. It tilts as before, and now telescopes as well, by 1. 5 inches.  the space below the steering wheel and instrument panel was enlarged, and the foot room increased. But in the rear, the new front seats seem to have a mixed effect; there's slightly more knee clearance, but overall leg room has been reduced by 1. 1 inches to 36. 8 inches. That's 1 inch less than the 2002 toyota camry, but 0. 4 more than the nissan altima and 1. 5 inches more than the volkswagen passat.  compared to these cars, the accord sedan trunk comes up small, with a volume of 14 cubic feet, although the flat floor will make it very easy to load things. The camry has 17 cubic feet, altima 16 and passat 15. The coupe looks more like a cheetah. Its trunk holds 13 cubic feet.  the excellent, clear analog instrumentation is also all new, with large faces and led illumination, another feature previously found only in higher-priced cars. There's dual-zone climate control on some ex models. The switchgear, primarily three big dials located in the center of the dash, is simple, if not particularly attractive. However the faux carbon fiber trim on one of the models we drove looked nice, while the brushed aluminum on other models wasn't bad either.  the simple big switchgear is a result of the successful search for efficient use of space, with the audio, climate and optional navigation systems integrated into a single unit. The freed space leads to exceptional cabin storage, including a good glovebox, big center console, bin under the audio system that will hold 12 cds, and door pockets deep and wide enough for a purse.  all three sound systems are upgraded, featuring stuff like two-band compression and five-point parametric equalization, which sounds nice, pun intended. But here's the real-world test: we took the v6 coupe six-speed on a flat-out blast through the malibu hills, engine revving to redline, windows wide open, cd celebrating bob marley, and even with the exterior noise, max volume on the sound system wasn't necessary for the full effect.  the attention to detail shows in every corner: coinholders, cellphone cord hooks, grab handles over every door, console lights, power outlets, sunglass holders, sliding armrests for different-sized arms, convenient and versatile access to. 2004 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Economy without sacrifice. introductionhonda's highly practical civic rolls into 2004 with a subtly but significantly new look. Bumpers, hood, headlights and grille are all new on the coupe and the sedan, emphasizing a baby-brother resemblance to the slick and smooth accord. The sporty si hatchback gets new headlamps and taillamps that update its sleek look.  honda civic is an icon. Honda sells more than 325,000 civics a year in the u. S., making it one of america's best-selling compacts. Civics are notable for their excellent fuel economy and sporty handling. Front-seat comfort is superb by any measure.  the honda civic line is composed of a family of diverse models. Coupes and sedans are available. Up-level civics come with powerful vtec engines that provide brisk acceleration. The si hatchback is the flagship performance model.  all civics are fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly, but a couple of models take these benefits to the extreme. The civic hx coupe gets 44 mpg on regular unleaded. More extreme is the civic hybrid, which gets up to 51 mpg on regular unleaded. The hybrid's gas engine is assisted by an electric motor. Unlike an electric car, the hybrid never needs to be plugged in. Owning and driving a civic hybrid is just like life with a regular civic. Sedans and coupes are available in dx, lx, and ex trim. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on all models. A new value package (vp) for the dx adds air conditioning, cd player, power locks, and center console. Lx adds air conditioning, 15-inch (rather than 14-inch) steel wheels, anti-roll bars front and rear, power-operated controls, a height-adjustable driver's seat, remote keyless entry, a cd player, and other luxury features.  civic ex models get more power from a 127-horsepower vtec version of the 1. 7-liter engine. Ex also gets 15-inch aluminum wheels, body-colored power mirrors, upgraded audio with six speakers, and a tilt-and-slide glass sunroof.  civic si is only available as a hatchback and the hatchback is only available as an si. Civic si comes with a high-output 2. 0-liter engine with i-vtec (for variable valve timing with intelligence) rated 160 horsepower. Si comes with a five-speed manual and is not available with an automatic.  prices range from $13,010 for a dx sedan to $15,160 for an lx coupe to $17,260 for an ex sedan to $19,000 for the si.  specialty civics are available as well. The hx coupe 13,710) comes with highly fuel-efficient lean-burn engine that gets up to 44 mpg and achieves an impressive 117 horsepower. Civic hx comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission, but a continuously variable automatic transmission, or cvt, is optional 1,000).  the civic hybrid represents the ultimate in environmental responsibility, using a small gas engine and a big electric motor to achieve up to 51 mpg. The hybrid 19,650) is equipped comparably to the ex sedan with a five-speed manual transmission. It's also available with a cvt automatic 20,650).  the civic gx sedan comes with natural gas-powered engine, which the government rates as a sulev, or super ultra low-emissions vehicle. It produces 100 horsepower.  options are limited. Side-impact air bags 250) are optional on all models and standard on the hybrid. Anti-lock brakes (abs) are standard on ex, si, and hybrid, optional on gx, and unavailable on other models. walkaroundthe honda civic sedan and coupe get subtle styling revisions for 2004 that give them a bolder look. Up front, the bumper, grille, engine hood, and headlights are all new. Most immediately noticeable is the new grille: the horizontal bar is gone, leaving just a blacked-out opening, framed by a character line that flows smoothly into the new hood. The opening under the grille has been re-shaped into a shark-like smile and now incorporates two downward-slashing struts. The headlights are still triangular, but stretch out more diagonally as they flow around the car's front corners. These changes are small, really, but subtly suggestive of the total re-style received last year by big brother accord. The civic's rear bumper is reshaped as well, a little crisper now than before.  unchanged is the civic's wedge-shaped profile, with a high, curt tail and low, abbreviated prow. The hood sits amazingly low. Relatively flat flanks are interrupted only by a single crease that dashes from the front wheel opening to the taillight; there are no body-side moldings. Windshield pillars arch into the rolled roof to meet the narrow c-pillars. Bold tail lamps dominate the blunt rear panel. Overall, both the sedan and the coupe remain conservative in appearance, but contemporary in design.  while they look like they're from the same family, the sedan and coupe differ in appearance. The coupe features a more aggressive windshield rake for a sportier look, and its tail lamps light up in a signature pattern. The sedan and coupe do share the same wheelbase and inner structure.  the appearance of the civic hybrid sedan is also subtly different, with a deeper spoiler under the front bumper, a small spoiler on the lip of the trunk lid, and unique, lightweight aluminum-alloy wheels.  the styling of the honda civic si hatchback seems to polarize people. Some think it's ugly; others love it and are quick to defend it. It's edgy and wedgy. The huge, flat windshield is steeply raked. The nose slopes radically downward, giving the car excellent aerodynamics and driver visibility. Its unique mesh grille is framed by huge triangular headlamps which, like those of the coupe and sedan, have been updated for 2004. The si is slab-sided, without any sculpture in the sheet metal. In the past, critics have suggested the wheels and tires do not look big enough for the bodywork, but honda has taken care of that for 2004 with new and better-proportioned 16-inch alloy wheels, and a new sill molding that suggests a slimmer profile. The si features a subtle roof spoiler and a dual tipped exhaust, and comes standard with a moonroof.  honda is known for its space-efficient design, and the civic packs its engine into a condensed engine bay, leaving more space for the interior. From the driver's seat, the civic is a comfortable car. From the back seat, it is less so. As in most hondas, the passenger compartment feels airy and open.  front-seat accommodations in the civic are superb. The sedan's front seats provide excellent support, thanks to a rigid structure with aggressive side bolsters. High seat cushions make entry and exit easy. Seat fabrics for the sedan were upgraded for the 2003 model year, and the quality of the new materials and trim is excellent. Visibility when driving or parking is excellent as the driver is surrounded by glass and looks over a very low hood line.  the interior of the hybrid is a bit more posh than even that of the ex sedan, with automatic climate control and a classy two-tone finish.  civic coupes have front seatbacks that stretch broad and deep with headrests that are open at the center like a doughnut. Front seatbelts attach to a side anchor bar that slides out of the way when someone climbs into the back seat.  the si hatchback's front seats are excellent, comfortable for long drives, and supportive for hard driving. They look and feel upscale. Alcantara-like trim adds richness to the side bolsters while red stitching accents the sporty fabric in the center. The seating position in the si is a bit strange with its big dash and sharply raked windshield, reminding us of the beetle.  rear-seat accommodations in all of the civic models are not the best. They are neither roomy nor comfortable by class standards. The rear bench is low and hard and does not support the thighs well. The toyota corolla is better on this score than the civic sedan. That said, the civic's flat floor lets rear-seat passengers spread their feet out, as there's no center tunnel to get in the way. Also, the outboard rear-seat head restraints are adjustable. But three in back is a crowd.  getting into the back seats of the two-door coupe isn't easy. The coupe's front seats cooperate for rear entry by gliding forward when the seatback tilts forward; a memory function then returns the seat to its original position. Bottom line: the civic is happiest with two people, but can haul additional passengers when called upon.  in all civics, the cockpit looks clean and efficient, with the instrument panel tucked beneath a barrel-shaped cowl. Round analog instruments include an oversized speedometer and tachometer in the center, flanked by smaller fuel and coolant gauges. In the sedan, the gauge graphics are the traditional white-on-black. In the coupe, the gauges show sil. 2003 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Sporty handling, miserly fuel economy. introductionhonda civic is an icon. Honda sells more than 325,000 civics a year in the u. S., making it one of america's best-selling compacts. Refinements for 2002 included improved handling and reduced noise and vibration, though we think there is still room for improvement in that area.  for 2003, sedans and coupes come with improved seat fabrics and the outboard rear headrests are now adjustable. Civic lx and hx models now come with a standard cd player, and the driver's seat on the lx is now height-adjustable, as it has been on the ex. Lx adds air conditioning, power-operated controls and luxury features.  ex models get a 127-horsepower engine, body-colored power mirrors, a remote entry system, and a tilt-and-slide glass sunroof. The ex engine displaces the same 1. 7 liters as the dx and lx engine, but gets a boost from honda's excellent vtec (variable valve timing and electronic control) system. Civic si comes with a high-output 2. 0-liter i-vtec (for variable valve timing with intelligence) engine rated 160 horsepower. Si comes with a five-speed manual and is not available with an automatic transmission.  prices range from about $13,000 for a dx to about $15,000 for an lx to about $17,000 for an ex to about $19,000 for the si.  specialty civics are available as well. Coupe hx 14,170) comes with a fuel-efficient lean-burn engine teamed to the standard five-speed manual transmission. Capable of 44 mpg, it achieves an impressive 117 horsepower. Optional on hx is a continuously variable automatic transmission, or cvt, for $1,000. There's also a coupe gx with a natural gas-powered engine that honda claims is the cleanest internal combustion engine in the world. A civic hybrid is available that uses a small gas engine and a big electric motor to achieve 50 mpg, which new car test drive reviewed separately. We think hybrids are the best short-term solution to reducing air pollution and fuel consumption, and the civic hybrid is the best example of one of these.  options are limited for the many trim levels. Side-impact air bags add $250. Anti-lock brakes (abs) are standard on ex and si, optional on gx. walkaroundthe honda civic sedan and coupe are conservative in appearance, but contemporary in design. They present a wedge-shaped profile with a high, curt tail and low, abbreviated prow. The hood sits an amazing 2. 6 inches lower than the hood of the previous-generation civic.  the front is clean and conservative with a discreet horizontal grille set between large, triangular multi-lens headlamps that curve around the corners. A wide air intake stretches across the body-colored bumper, and a low front spoiler has been added for downforce. Relatively flat flanks are interrupted only by the moldings. Windshield pillars arch into the rolled roof to meet the narrow c-pillars. Bold tail lamps dominate the blunt rear panel, underscored by a body-colored bumper. The sedan's tail lamps have been revised for 2003.  they look like they're from the same family, but the sedan and coupe differ in appearance. The coupe features a more aggressive windshield rake for a sportier look, and its tail lamps light up in a signature pattern. They look and feel upscale. Alcantara-like trim adds richness to the side bolsters while red stitching accents the sporty fabric in the middle. The seating position in the si is a bit strange with its big dash and sharply raked windshield, and reminds us of the volkswagen new beetle.  rear-seat accommodations are not the best. They are neither roomy nor comfortable by class standards. The toyota corolla is better on this score. The flat floor lets rear-seat passengers spread their feet out; there's no center tunnel to get in the way of the center occupant. But three in back is still a crowd. The rear bench is low and hard and does not support the thighs well. The coupe's front seats cooperate for rear entry by sliding forward under power when the seatback tilts forward; a memory function then returns it to its original position. Bottom line: the civic is happiest with two people, but can haul additional passengers when called upon.  in all civics, the cockpit looks clean and efficient, with the instrument panel tucked beneath a barrel-shaped cowl. Round white-on-black analog instruments include an oversized speedometer and tachometer in the center, flanked by smaller fuel and coolant gauges. In the coupe, gauges show silver highlights and glow with amber light at night. The si features black numbers on white gauges, for a sporty appearance; while a bright red si badge adds color.  hvac controls are wonderfully designed, with large rotary dials for heating, ventilation, and fan speed stacked just to the left of the audio system controls. Separate buttons for air conditioning, recirculation, and rear-window defrost are arrayed just below the audio system. It's a clean design that's very easy to operate. Audio controls are close at hand, but the system suffers from small buttons and knobs. Worse, the sound was only mediocre.  the si sports a shifter that sprouts at an angle from the upper console, as in a mid-1960s alfa romeo or some of the latest rally cars. Though it looks odd at first, the lever turns out to be perfectly located for quick and easy shifting, almost reminiscent of a formula car. Its close proximity to the steering wheel keeps it handy. It works really, really well and we instantly liked it.  the civic sedan's trunk space is comparable to other compact sedans. The hatchback is very practical with a big cargo compartment that opens up further when the rear seats are folded.  safety equipment includes pre-tensioners for both lap and shoulder belts in front, two-stage front airbags, three-point safety belts for five. driving impressionthe honda civic is a line of cars that offer terrific handling. Ride quality and noise, vibration and harshness are not the best in the class, but the current models feel more substantial, more upscale than pre-2001 models. All civics are fun to drive, and ex and si models increase this aspect with brisk acceleration performance.  driving the civic ex sedan with the five-speed manual transmission is a sporty, satisfying experience. With its more powerful engine, the ex delivers lively acceleration Power Mirrors✔ Tachometer✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ CD Player✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Aluminum Wheels
